Tip of the day: How to hit a faster serve

Faster Serve

Today we are going to give some tips on how to hit a faster serve. Whether you are beginner or an expert sometimes its good to have a few tips as a refresher. Remember the serve is one of the most important strokes out there. If you don’t have a good serve you better have an Agassi return. For your newbies out there I am referring to Andre Agassi.

1) Toss is key: The serve begins with a toss. Too low and your serve is going in the net. Toss behind you and who knows where the ball is going. The key here is to toss the ball out in front of you so you can lean into the ball and court to gain momentum into the point. Tossing out in front allows you to transfer weight efficiently.

2) Transferring weight: If that serve toss is out in front of you then you will be forced to use your body to go up after the ball as opposed to using your arms to do all the work. This forward toss allows you to go up and forward into the ball and allows you to extend into your arm into the ball.

3) Service arm extension: Now that you have tossed in front and transferred your weight accordingly you can be as tall as possible. Don’t shrink down and try to be as tall as possible at your point of contact.
